UK Flag Registration

From company formation to tonnage survey, MMSI to deregistration — every step of UK flag registration handled in one package, with one point of contact.

  • Tonnage measurement included in the package
  • Part I and Part III explained, the right one chosen
  • The file is followed from start to finish
  • The surveyor holds MCA-framework measurement competence
  • You end the process holding the certificate

British flag registration enters your boat on the UK Ship Register. Part I registration requires a tonnage measurement; the measurement, the file and the follow-up are handled as one package.

Why the British flag?

The UK register means recognition in ports worldwide, a mature legal framework, and title (including mortgages) recorded on an official registry. It suits corporate ownership structures and is the most commonly chosen foreign flag among owners based in Turkey.

Part I or Part III?

Part I is the full registry: international recognition, recorded title and mortgage, name reservation, open to any nationality via a UK company. Part III (SSR) is the simplified register for vessels under 24 metres, limited to UK residents. From Turkey, Part I is the route.

Spirit level and tape work for a tonnage measurement on board
The tonnage measurement is a precondition of registration; the package covers the measurement and its certificate.

What the package covers

  1. UK company formation — the entity the registration sits on
  2. Tonnage survey — MCA-standard measurement and certificate, a precondition of registration
  3. Radio licence and MMSI — the vessel’s communications identity re-issued under the new registry
  4. Part I application — the file assembled from ownership documents (Bill of Sale, Builder’s Certificate), insurance and survey certificates, and tracked through to issue
  5. Deregistration — cancellation of the previous flag (its fee varies by country and is the one item outside the package)

Package price €2,000 + VAT, with all UK government fees included.

Part I registration requires a tonnage measurement; measurement, file preparation and follow-up run as one package.
Detail measurement with tape and calliper
The boundaries of enclosed spaces are measured one by one; the calculation is built on those figures.

Afterwards

Registration is valid for five years; we track the renewal calendar and remind you. Post-registration obligations — including marking the name and port on the hull — are handed over in writing.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

What does the package include?

The €2,000 + VAT package covers UK company formation, the tonnage survey, radio licence and MMSI, Part I registration and all UK government fees. The only item outside the package is the deregistration fee of your previous flag, which varies by country and is advised separately.

Can a non-UK citizen register under the British flag?

Yes. Part I registration is open regardless of nationality, normally through a UK-registered company - and company formation is already part of the package. Part III (SSR) is limited to UK residents, so Part I is the correct route from Turkey.

How long does it take, and can I use the boat meanwhile?

Typically 3-6 weeks depending on paperwork. Provisional registration is available while documents complete, so the vessel stays in service throughout.
