What is the difference between the harbour register and the ship registry?
They carry different legal weight: a registry entry formally establishes ownership and mortgages, while the harbour register is a simpler record. For lending or international voyaging, the registry side comes to the front.
Why it works this way
A tonnage measurement is the technical document required for registry entry — which is why the two questions usually arrive together.
