What paperwork matters when buying a foreign-flagged boat?
Under a foreign flag the risk sits in the chain rather than the boat: whether the seller is the true owner, whether a mortgage is registered and how the flag will be deleted. A deposit paid before those three are verified may not be recoverable.
Why it works this way
Which flag the boat will carry afterwards should also be planned from the start. British registration is a frequently chosen route at this point.
