What recurring problems should you look for on a used Westerly?
Most commonly: micro-cracking at the hull-to-keel joint on bilge-keel models, which is the first thing damaged in a grounding; local softening of the stringers from moisture collecting in the bilge under the engine bearers; and internal corrosion in the original steel fuel tanks on pre-1980 boats.
Why it works this way
These come from the design rather than from chance, so knowing them lets the survey go straight to the point rather than working outward from a generic checklist.
