How do you negotiate on survey findings, and which findings carry weight?
A finding carries weight when the seller cannot deny it and the buyer can price it: one with a measured value, a photograph and an estimated repair cost. "There is moisture in the hull" is an opinion; "22-28% moisture at twelve points on the starboard topsides, repair range as follows" is a document.
Why it works this way
The report is written to produce the second kind. Findings are graded urgent, short-term or monitor, and repair items carry a cost range — which is what turns a survey into a negotiating position rather than a list of worries.
