Do insurers require a survey report, and what do they ask for?
Insurers assess the boat through an independent measurement rather than her appearance, and usually ask for a report issued within the last three to five years when renewing a policy. A report drawn up within the IIMS, ABYC or MCA framework, with findings graded by urgency, is directly more acceptable.
Why it works this way
In the event of a claim the same report becomes the document that shows the damage did not exist before the incident. That is often worth more than the survey cost several times over.
